Hi all,
in the past months we concentrated our communication mainly on our successful PTV xServer components and services. But of course these remarkable tools aren´t the only solutions in the developer components portfolio. Today we would like to remind you on our PTV MapServer (current Version 5.5).
What are the main differences between the PTV xServers and the PTV MapServer?
Contrary to the PTV xServers the PTV MapServer is a so called Desktop SDK, which means you can work with it without the support of any servers. So the core goal is to offer a development solution for customers with the requirement for an offline SDK. Nevertheless the PTV MapServer offers a wide range of logistical functions. Focussed on the most important functions pls. find below a short overview:
Functions & Features
1. Mapping
Interactive map display, Zooming and panning around maps;
Print and export maps;
Show customer addresses, sites, etc. with freely selectable logos;
Map look and feel is fully customizable
2. Routing and toll calculation
Calculate the route (fastest / shortest routes available);
Create customised vehicle profiles (not just truck and slow car, but also bicycle, pedestrian, etc.);
Calculate and avoid toll costs for many european countries;
Integration of traffic informations (requires additional data);
3. Truck routing
When calculating truck routes, PTV MapServer considers ‘truck attributes:’ information on height, weight, hazardous goods and other restrictions;
Truck attributes are available for the many countries;
4. Logistics optimisation
Optimise the sequence of stop-off points if there are more than three on the route
5. Geocoding
Address geocoding (converting a mailing address to a geocoordinate);
Select your preferred error tolerance for address entries: accept identical- sounding (phonetic) or similar addresses (fuzzy);
Reverse geocoding: determine the address for a particular geocoordinate (e.g. GPS position);
Validate addresses;
Furthermore the PTV MapServer offers several more features like Radius search, Tracking and tracing, Address management (Import and manage your own addresses) and of course RoadEditor functions (blocking and releasing roads by specific customer needs).
Technical Requirements
1. Operating System: Windows 2000 and up.
2. Supported database formats (eg. for integrating your own addresses): Oracle, SQL, DB2, Access.
3. System requirements: 1GB RAM is recommended. Up to 500 MB hard drive space is needed for the map data.
